I was proud to support the amendment that would enshrine animal sentience in law post-Brexit.
However, I was deeply disappointed with the Government’s painful decision to vote against and overlook animal welfare as part of our terms for leaving the EU. This was simply unnecessary, and yet another example of Theresa May ignoring the views of the public on key issues.
The UK’s own laws on Animal Welfare makes no explicit mention of animal sentience, and we are therefore set to lose a critical component of animal rights once we exit the European Union. I will continue to campaign for this critical issue which means so much to animal lovers and those who support animal rights.
